By layering the Strategic Highway Network (STRAHNET) (https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/policy/2004cpr/chap18.htm) , Strategic Rail Corridor (STRACNET) (http://www.tea.army.mil/DODProg/RND/default.htm) and a military commuting map, NCDOT can illustrate the military’s footprint in terms of transportation. The STRAHNET and STRACNET are defined by Congress while the commuting map is a result of data taken from the Census Transportation Planning Products (CTPP) (http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/census_issues/ctpp/), then projecting origin-destination tables through the NC Statewide Travel Demand Model (https://connect.ncdot.gov/projects/planning/Pages/ModelResearchDevelopment.aspx). Finally, the 10 year identified projects are derived from the DRAFT State Transportation Improvements Program (https://connect.ncdot.gov/projects/planning/Pages/Draft-STIP.aspx).
